What the crucible does, and why it matters

In a CZ grower, high-purity polysilicon is melted inside a fused-quartz crucible, and a seed crystal is used to draw a monocrystalline ingot from that melt. The crucible is in direct contact with molten silicon at high temperature for the entire growth cycle, so its purity, geometry and inner-surface behaviour feed directly into crystal quality.

It is a consumable: a crucible is typically used for one campaign and then replaced. That makes both its performance and its consistent supply important to plant economics and uptime.

Excessive devitrification of the inner surface can shed particles that disrupt single-crystal growth; trapped bubbles can migrate and release gas; and softening or sag under long high-temperature cycles can distort the melt and shorten usable life.

These behaviours are why a crucible is judged on how it performs across a full run and across batches, not on a single specification sheet or unit price.
